Football

Football's more fun at night, but this was a paying job and besides the changing light, it was pretty fun. Cody Moran #70 and Ortiz #8.

Restoration - Part 1

This is a photo of Gerardo as a mad little boy. :o) Anyway I have been messing with this image for 2 years trying to fix it and this is what I've ended up with. There are 4 more pictures like this of his siblings and mom to fix yet. I fixed a photo of his grandfather about a year ago and I will post that soon.

Apple

This is an apple from the tree in our back yard. It was so full the branches were hanging on the ground. This is before they were ripe and I liked the light on it. Now they are ready and are the most delicious apples I've ever eaten.

My First Payment as a Photographer!

I tried my hand at engagement photos this week and Martha graciously allowed me to put up the check on here. Now, before anyone gets upset that I only charged $50, keep in mind I am not a portrait photographer and will not be making prints or anything, just a CD.

Flamingo

I was able to spend some time with the zoo's photographer, Tom Gillespie on Friday. He gave me some tips and tricks he uses to make really nice zoo pictures. Here's one I did using the advice he gave me.

Something Different

Here's something a little different from me. I went on a photo safari one evening and thought I'd try being a little artsy. Not sure how I feel about it.

Tooth Fish

I photographed this fish in a tank at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. I didn't even noticed the teeth until I was editing my photos. I didn't touch this image, not even a levels adjustment. I grin everytime I look at this image.
P.S. This is a Pacu, the vegetarian cousin to the Pirhana.

Vision Illustrations

These are two photographs I took, smudged them into illustrations in Photoshop and then added the correct degree of their angles of vision. I learned a lot about Photoshop doing this project.

Macro Baleen

This is a macro 1:1 shot of whale baleen. (It was stinky) I used a Nikon D2x and 105mm lens with extension ring. It was fun doing some macro again.

Smudge Tool

Today I learned to use the smudge tool to make a photo look like an illustration. This was my first try.

Construction

My current internship is at the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State. They are doing a lot of construction and building a new hospital.

Flo Rida

Flo Rida and his entourage popped into the KZL studio Friday night and I took a few pictures of him while he was there. He was scheduled to perform at the N Club, but I left at midnight and they still weren't there, so Jared and Biggie stayed to take pictures when he showed up. 4 Mil offered me an internship with them in Miami and I was gettin' excited until Deidre from the Two Guys Named Chris morning show informed me he was pulling my leg. That would have been cool.

Celebrity Samuari Cook-Off

Katie O'brien was serving up some tasty Japanese food at Kabuto's Tuesday night. Biggie was her assistant and they won 2nd place.

Jack Murphy noshing on a shrimp head before the big cook-off commenced.

Ricky Prohl autographed footballs for everyone at his table and did all the cooking himself.

The big Celebrity Samuari Cook-Off happened Tuesday night at Kabuto's in Greensboro. It was really loud and really fun and there was lots of fire. Biggie lost the hair off the back of one of his hands thanks to Katie, but he was the only casualty. Josh-in-the-box let Jared light the onion volcano so he could keep his eyebrows this year. Everyone had a great time and all the money went to Murphy's Kids Charity. To see the rest of my photos go to www.1075kzl.com and click on 'Murphy in the Morning'.

Happy Easter !!!

So Bingo kept picking on Biggie all day. Not sure why, but this photo kind of summed up their relationship for the day.

This little fella was too young to participate in the egg hunt, so I gave him an egg in exchange for a photo. His outfit and blond curls just scream Easter to me.

Josh in the Box and the Chick-fil-A cow...so happy together...

Blake Lewis in the 107.5kzl studio.

Last night Blake Lewis did the Top 8 at 8 with Tripper live in the studio with 12 sets of listeners to meet-n-greet. He was the other season 6 American Idol finalist along with Jordin Sparks. He's very animated and funny and it was a very enjoyable experience for all the listeners that were there.

Chocolate Eggs

I had to put these chocolates in plastic eggs for the big Easter egg hunt I am to photograph on the 22nd. When the monotony of the eggs got to me I decided to be a little creative and integrate photography into the task. I bounced my new Canon 430EX off the ceiling to light the chocolates.

Three Days Grace and Josie

Here's Josie with Three Days Grace backstage last night. I was gonna bounce my flash for a less snapshot-looking photo but they all had hats on and I didn't have much time so I went with direct on-camera flash since I don't have an off shoe cord or anything. Anyway, this has been the coolest part of my internship so far.

Purple People Eater

I used to love that song "One eyed, one horned, flying purple people eater" when I was a kid. Anyway, I always imagined they lived in these little purple flowers. This is a 1:1 shot done with a D200, 55mm lens with extension ring and sunlight.

Sunflowers and Tea

FM3a, 60mm lens with PB5 bellows, Speedotron and 35mm transparency film. I am unsure of the ratio because in my excitement to use the bellows, I forgot to crank the lens out to 1:1, so I'm not sure where to start to calculate the ratio. My best guess is 3:1.

Macro...beyond

Ok, so focus...not so good, but I used the PB5 bellows and 60mm lens and had a hard time seeing very well. I also used a Speedotron and FM3a camera with Kodak Ektachrome film.

Potpourri

A 1:1 macro shot of some potpourri in the livingroom. Obviously needs dusted. I used a D200 and 55mm lens with extension. 1/30th at f/8. Lit by SB800 flash on SC-17 cord.

Melisa and I spent the day at the zoo collecting sounds and images. We each put together our own Soundslides from the pool of images and sounds for John's assignment. I could have spent a lot more time on my sound in Audacity because its not very smooth.

Metal

I used a piece of metal vent and lit it with a mini mole shining on the white wall with a blue gel on half of it. Image size is 1:1. ISO 400 f/32 15 second exposure. D100, 105mm lens with extension.
Set up below:

Macro Glass

This flower vase was lit with a mini mole facing the wall with an orange gel on it. It is 1:1. ISO 400 f/32 25 second exposure. I used a D100 with 105mm lens with extension.

Macro Ratios

I thought it would be interesting to see the ratios side by side. 1:1 is life size representation on the film plane, 1:2 is half life size, etc. I used the Canon 5D macro kit and a hot light. The lens has marks for each ratio, so I just set it and moved out until the orange became in focus. Now I would like to go beyond 1:1.

Apples

Some more macro. I used the Canon 5D macro kit and just some hot lights. This image is 1:1. ISO 400, f/8 @ 1/30th. I like this composition because of the background colors and I didn't notice the thing on the stem until later...and I ate that apple, eww.

Set.

Cropped Ice

I just cropped the image below to show the shapes in the ice. I just think it looks cool.

Macro Ice

Some macro ice from this morning. These are 1:1 but I really would like to use the bellows and get even further. Used Nikon D200, 55mm macro lens with extension ring. f/8 at 1/60th ISO 100. SB800 flash on SC-17 cord.
